Master of Public Administration (MPA)
The Master of Public Administration (MPA) includes professional management, analytical training, leadership skills, and understanding of public policy issues needed at all levels of government and in the nonprofit sector. It is tailored both for those without public service experience and for those wishing to expand their knowledge and expertise.
The MPA is a 42 credit hour professional program that provides managerial, communication, and human-relations skills in preparation for or advancement in a variety of public sector or related careers. The MPA program is intended to prepare students for successful careers as managers in the public sector. The curriculum is designed to enable the student to understand the scope and activity of government and to administer public programs effectively. The program has a strong interdisciplinary character and exposes students to public administration aspects of public organizations. For the student who already has significant governmental experience, the program provides opportunities to gain new skills and obtain an enlarged perspective on the responsibilities and obligations of public sector management. While public administration is generally associated with a political science background, students from any discipline who are interested in public sector employment, or who are currently employed in the public sector are encouraged to enter the program.
